The new season is just around the corner...
Some of you have been working games all summer but it is important to remember to step away and recharge once in a while. Be sure to spend time with and thank those who support you in your passion. Refereeing often takes us away from our loved ones and we need to acknowledge them with gratitude. The 2025 registration window is now open. Please begin your recertification process and review the new law changes. WAY TO GO KEVIN! Congratulations to Kevin who was selected to referee at the USYS National Tournament in Florida in July this year! This recognition is well-deserved and is the result of years of hard work and dedication. I look forward to watching Kevin on even bigger stages soon. Three of us also had the privilege to be selected to the 2024 USYS Far West Presidents Cup in Utah. CJ, Chris, and I worked with referees from across the western states as well as National Coaches, MLS and FIFA referees. Twelve referees from Cal South accompanied us and nine were selected for National Presidents Cup. Refereeing can be many things: a source of income, a chance to give back to the community, a passion or a vocation. If you are serious, it can be very fulfilling and take you far. There are many opportunities to advance and improve and if you are looking for a career, the sky is the limit! If you are actively looking to advance, contact me, Chris or Kevin. I'll see you all on the field soon! Yours in soccer, Patrick Alles DVSRA President

I would like to introduce myself as the new president of Desert Valley Soccer Referee Association (DVSRA). DVSRA is the Coachella Valley’s only USSF affiliated referee association and we will be supplying referees for the upcoming CSL season.
For the last 20 years I have been involved in the local soccer community as a coach, (rec & club) admin, instructor and referee for everything from rec to college games. Many of you know me from working games together and I will continue to be present at the fields. It is my goal to train and support USSF certified referees who can deliver a professional game experience. I would like to ask for your assistance in spreading the word: we need more referees! Please join me in helping to recruit new referees. Parents, siblings and players all make great referees (age 13 and over.) For kids, it is a great way to earn some extra money and learn new skills. For players, refereeing can provide a valuable insight into the game from a new perspective. Cal South also provides pathways for advancement to higher levels. We will provide the training. If you know of someone who is interested in becoming a referee, have them contact me or visit: https://calsouth.com/referee-faqs/ Additionally, if you have any ideas, questions or concerns, now or throughout the season, please do not hesitate to contact me at: [email protected]. I look forward to a great season! -- Patrick Alles President - Desert Valley Soccer Referee Association (DVSRA) Due to Covid-19 restrictions and following all Cal South and State Guidelines, all soccer activities has been suspended. At this time we still do not know exactly when games will resume.
For Cal South information visit: https://calsouth.com/coronavirus/ When new information is available, we will update our website and send communications to all members. In the meantime, stay safe and follow all CDC and State Guidelines. Referee’s,
The Club season is upon us. The first games will kick off on September 8 th . Only referee’s that have a 2018 certification will be assigned. Be sure you have completed your membership form and pay your club dues to be added to the arbiter. Recreational games will begin September 22 nd , if you solely plan on doing these games, you only need to fill out your membership form at http://www.dvsra.org/ Become familiar with Coast Soccer league rules 2018 https://www.coastsoccer.net/rules as there have been some changes. You can download the CSL referee app on your cell phone and have the rules at your fingertips at all times. Our points of emphasis are the same as they have been for the past few seasons: Player Safety: Water breaks, should not be denied to players in the desert heat. Goals will be anchored or the game will not be started. Coaches must present their ID’s, player passes and rosters before the match. If ID’s, players passes or rosters are not present, the game will not be started. Referee’s must show up early to their matches, sanctions may be applied to late referee’s. If you are late and another referee has started your match, he/she has the option to finish that game and get paid for it. Now would be the time to check your uniforms, remember for club soccer we will use the 2 stripe (new style) socks. Our assigner Louie will send out availability messages when he receives the schedules, it is your responsibility to maintain clear and constant contact with him. Our monthly training have made me confident that you have a better understanding of the game and how it should be managed. We look forward to a Fun season! If you need assistance in your certification, please reach out to us for help. We will see you on the fields. DVSRA President Alfred Medina Referees,
The Club Soccer Season is upon us. With the monthly trainings that we have had, we have a jump start in our preparation for the season. Palm Desert Youth Soccer League (PDYSL) games will start mid-September. Things of importance and emphasis this season are Anchored Goals. No game will start without anchored Goals. No exceptions. Water Breaks, it is pretty Hot when the season begins especially for teams that come in from cooler climates. Be attentive to the needs of the players and do not deny them a water break if it is needed. Don't forget to keep yourself hydrated too! Refresh your knowledge of the Player Development Initiatives (PDI’s). They are in effect this season. You should review and print the documents out for your reference. Check your uniforms and equipment, come to the fields early and come prepared. Links to buy equipment are in the resources tab. Please note that this year we are using Arbiter.com for assignment of games. You must recertify, send in your registration form, pay your dues and create an arbiter.com account in order to be assigned games. Communication is vital. If for some reason you are certified and did not get contacted for games, let us know ASAP. When you arrive at the fields early, check the players and their ID cards. The coaches must also have an ID card, No cards = No game. Please remember to return the ID cards after the game. That means don’t wait for the team administrators to come to you, seek them out. We only keep ID cards of players in cases of Violent conduct or Referee Abuse. Remember to review the Coast Soccer League rules in the resources tab. Last but not least, Be Professional and have Fun! I look forward to seeing you on the fields and to a Great season! Best regards, Alfred Medina DVSRA President As we are beginning the season, here are items and protocol to follow:
Referee’s should carry and present their Cal South\USSF ID card and present it upon request. Arrive early and check in the players, Check-in includes obtaining 3 copies of the roster, game fees and player ID cards. Check to make sure the ID’s match each player and all players that are going to play have an ID and place a checkmark on the roster. If a player does not have an ID, they cannot play NO EXCEPTIONS. No hard or plaster casts are allowed. Home team chooses the side of the field their spectators will be on and will change in case of a color conflict. If a player arrives late, they will be allowed to play as long as they have an ID card and hands it to the referee. The coach or the referee should add the name and player ID number to the roster at the first opportunity or after the game. If one or both teams feel there is something wrong with players, ID’s etc. They have the right to not sign the match report. It is the referee’s responsibility to detail these incidents in the match report. A coach or team administrator with a Proper ID card must be present for the whole match. Do not start the match or continue a match without a licensed team coach or administrator NO EXCEPTIONS. If a team fails to show, does not have ID cards or does not have a licensed coach or administrator within 15 minutes after the time the match was to start, the game is subject to a forfeit and the referee must detail this in the match report. Remember to completely fill out the match report and any additional reports if necessary and mail them in ASAP. Remember to give the teams back their Player ID cards after the match. We only pull and mail in ID’s or license in the case of assault or Violent conduct. Remember water breaks and staying hydrated for Referee’s and the players. Have Fun out there, if there are any unusual circumstances that we have not covered let us know. We are posting the CSL rules on the resources page of the website for you to reference. Regards, Alfred Medina DVSRA President Fellow Referees,

Dear Friends and Members of the DVSRA, We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our President, Leif Andersen. Our upcoming season will be in his honor. We will remember Leif by staying on the path to excellence that he had envisioned and expected of us. A 'Celebration of Leif' will be held on Sunday, September 27 from 2 pm to 5 pm at Desert Willow. A GoFundMe account has been set up to assist the Andersen family.
